Caption Chat is a web-based AAC support tool created by Sheila Lin. This page explains what information may be used when you use the app, especially if you choose Google Sign-In and optional cloud sync.

Using Caption Chat without signing in

You can use Caption Chat without an account. In that case, your board edits and settings stay in this browser on this device.

Google Sign-In

If you sign in with Google, Caption Chat may use basic account information needed for authentication, such as your name and email address. Caption Chat does not receive or store your Google password.

Optional cloud sync

If cloud sync is enabled, Caption Chat may store editable AAC app data in Supabase. This can include board labels, page settings, vocabulary layouts, symbol choices, and related configuration data.

Caption Chat is designed to store app customization data. It does not intentionally store Google Drive files, Gmail content, Calendar data, Contacts, or other Google service content.

How information is used

  • To let you sign in securely.
  • To connect saved Caption Chat settings to your account.
  • To support optional backup and sync across devices.
  • To troubleshoot app functionality if you contact the developer.

Sharing

Caption Chat does not sell user data. User-created board data is not shared with advertisers. Data is used only to provide and maintain the app features described here.

Local storage

Caption Chat saves settings in your browser using local storage. Clearing browser storage may remove local board data. If cloud sync is not enabled, the developer cannot recover data deleted from your device.

Deletion

You may request deletion of synced Caption Chat data by contacting info@slplin.com.
